70% of BLAH BLAH BLAH

There is a shocking (shocking!) bit of news that's been going around how 70% of WoW players never make it past level 10. That there's a whole slew of people who never make it any further than level 10.

SHOCK!

Like, ZAHMIGAW---SUPER CALI FRAJALISTIC XP ALLA SHOCKZORS! Before you read any further, think really, really hard about this SHOCKING bit of trivia.

And then think about what I see all the time on my way to the mailbox from the AH:

MOMMY, YOU MEAN THOSE AREN'T ALL HEROIC ICC25 HARDMODE GEARED TANKS?!

... shocking, right?

Haha thats quite possibly true, how do they tell between farmers and legit players.

I was going to go on about I was nearly one of those people, the fact my friend was determined to keep playing kept me going, the game really is a drag at the start, meleeing stuff as a caster and dieing rampantly.

haha! i was just thinking about that same thing. add in the level 1 spammers of gold buying sites and it becomes pretty clear that these stats are not at all accurate.

I'm actually not at all surprise, considering that for each active max lvl char there are like 2-3 bank-chars, mules or any other name you prefer.

The other fun fact revealed at that same conference (which apparently is giving the stockholders night terrors) is that WoW subscriptions have plateau'd at a modest 11.5 million. Oh no! I find this one a bit more interesting than the 70% of <level 10 players one.

Hah hah, nice!

Why would blizz even report that statistic?

It's a red herring in other ways, too. Characters at level ten says absolutely *squat* about player retention, trial account conversion or subscription rates. Those are the key numbers for the financial guys.

The "70%" and "level 10" make it seem like there is Really Real Math going on, but it really doesn't say anything useful.

I've often thought players should be able to "corpse burn" dead players in and around capitol cities. Spammers erased! Blizzard could even make that a consumable item and sink a bit of gold while letting players police their own towns.
